REFINING - HYDROTREATORS

Hydrotreators or HDS (Hydrodesulfurization) units remove sulfur from products of distillation like Naphtha, Diesel, and Gas Oils. This “sweetening” process reduces SO2 emissions when the product is burned, and protects the catalysts used in down-stream units (Reformers). Regulations are ever tightening on this process:

  • Feed is mixed with Hydrogen, heated to 300-400 degrees Celsius and pressurized up to 1900 psi.
  • This mixture is sent to a reactor containing a fixed bed of catalyst (typically alumina based impregnated with cobalt and molybdenum)
  • The chemistry: C2H5SH + H2  C2H6 + H2S
    • Now the Sulfur can be removed

TechStar Analyzer Solutions can assist your Hydrotreators with:

  • Monitor the impurities in the HydrogenRecycle Stream
  • Minimize the C3 and lighter components in the product stream
  • Combustion Flue Gas Analysis for Safety, Efficiency, Throughput and Emissions Control
  • Process safety, Monitor O2 to maintain below 8%
  • Corrosion Protection
